New Unique London Wedding Venue: Ritzy Cinema
It’s not often that you get the chance to be the first person to shoot a new unique London wedding venue. In March, Mike and Limara were the first people to get married at the Picturehouse Ritzy Cinema in Brixton, and I got to shoot their day.
Many couples want to get married somewhere with a personal and sentimental history so The Ritzy cinema was the perfect choice. Mike and Limara are big film buffs and The Ritzy was Limara’s local cinema growing up. When the pair approached the cinema, getting a marriage licence was something they’d considered but not followed through with, now it’s one of London’s newest and coolest wedding venues.
Since the Ritzy opened in 1911, hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of people have watched stories and drama unfold staring up at that big silver screen. Mike and Limara’s family and friends got to see their own little story unfold, as they walked down the isle and said their vows on the stage in the cinema’s grand main screen.
Following the gorgeous ceremony, everyone ascended the stairs to the aptly names Upstairs at The Ritzy bar for drink, pop corn and film themed cake pops. The cake pops were a big hit and a unique alternative to a classic wedding cake. It’s also not often that people get to see (and eat) themselves made out of cake!
It’s a privilege to shoot any wedding, but there is something a little extra special about being the first wedding photographer at such a cool and unique venue.
